Definition:
Dysfunction of the connection of the rib with its corresponding cartilage at the front of the chest. Characterised by local pain, tenderness, and inflammation. Often aggravated by breathing/coughing and movements of the upper back and/or arm. When inflamed even gentle pressure can be painful. In many cases patients may wrongly assume that this is a heart attack symptom.
