Herbal Medicine (Phytotherapy) is composed exclusively from plants. This is the oldest form of medicine known to man. It never stops evolving lending many of its secrets to modern healthcare. Some of the more popular herbal treatments include:

  • St John’s wort for mild to moderate depression
  • Black cohosh for menopausal symptoms
  • Saw palmetto for enlarged prostrate
  • Hawthorn berries for mild heart failure
  • Horse chestnut for chronic venous insufficiency
  • Echinacea enhances immune system
  • Ginkgo biloba to improve mental performance

Herbal medicine is not just about isolating an active ingredient. The delicate chemical balance of the whole plant is needed for the greatest & safest effect. The preparation is usually dispensed in its tincture form – but may come in teas, tablets, capsules, creams and pessaries.

Medical herbalists undergo rigorous clinical training and possesses skills similar to conventional doctors practicing in the Western medical tradition. The treatment is holistic where the background, emotional state and current lifestyle of the patient are also taken into account.
